Brian Zator, Director of New Construction at CPS begins with his report. “CPS Capital Plan Policy Updates”

Building updates are crucial in our school. $14.4 billion in repairs have been identified.

Public feedback from a Capital Community Engagement survey helped to identify 3 priority areas: Every Student, Every School, Every Community.

Critical capital building needs (such as roofing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing) is projected to cost over $3 billion dollars which exceeds the annual funding levels.

Venguanette Dye Exec Director of Capital Planning & Construction gives the Recap on Capital Budget Priorities on the major 10 critical categories. Due to the community’s engagement other lower-level needs were identified such as parking lot repairs and restroom upgrades.

The 23-24 Facilities Condition Assessment has just been completed. This is a visual inspection used to capture and record the buildings system’s condition

The Equity Index tells us how far schools are from opportunity to ensure we are responding to student’s needs.

After May 1st all data will be shared from the 23-24 assessments

The 24-25 survey will be released to the community on April 1st and will be open longer this year to gain more responses.

There will be 5 City-wide Capital Plan Community meetings scheduled with Spanish options.

Public commenter says she is so grateful to see that the bathrooms are being repaired especially with the influx of homeless and migrant students.

John Boggs of Bogan High School would like more transparency to why the pool is has not been working for years due to flooding of Bogan Park and what needs to be done to make it accessible to students?

Director of Renovation Construction at CPS, Ariel Vaca, responds that from his understanding the pool has been repaired and fully functional but will check to make sure there isn’t anything outstanding with IDPH that would prevent the pool’s use.

Executive Director of the Department of Advanced Learning and Specialty Programs, Errika Baker Perkins is next to present “Accelerated Placement Act Policy Revision”

In 2019, the CPS Board of Education voted and adopted a policy to allow for early entrance to kindergarten, 1st grade, whole grade acceleration and single-subject acceleration. But with COVID it was hard to get the policy off the ground

They are looking to revise the policy to make it more fair and equitable as many of the applicants were only concentrated from 10 of the 400 plus Chicago neighborhoods

Here are the proposed shifts:

Stephen Mitchell asks how the execution of single-subject acceleration takes place with all of the budget constraints of many schools. How is a teacher expected to manage that? Perkins responds that this is on case by case basis and they support with coaching & scheduling.

John Broggs asks if there is ability to form partnerships with orgs to help educate parents on this process? Particularly in the South and West side communities.

Baker-Perkins says that once a child is identified as eligible to apply for the program, there is a link for a webinar to help answer any questions and guide through the application process.

Director of the Offjce of LSC Relations Kishasha Williams-Ford chimes in and states that she is willing to help distribute information to the LSC group about this work.

Kishasha Williams-Ford begins her LSC Relations Director’s report with highlighting the Super Saturday training her office held 2/22/25. This was an all-day training event that offered 45 different sessions and 1078 course credits were given to members this one day.

The Local School Advisory Board Election season is here. Schools should have received a packet of paper ballots but they will also pilot online voting this year. You must submit a request by Wednesday, March 19th and the ballot will be sent electronically on 3/21.

The LSC Member Engagement session will be held next Wednesday, 3/26 during spring break at 4pm.
