The meeting has been called to order at 11:59AM with roll call currently taking place

8 members are present therefore the commute has a quorum and may continue. A few alderpeople are attending virtually

The floor has opened for public comment section at 12:02PM. It is limited to 30 minutes total.

Chancellor of City Colleges of Chicago Juan Salgado has taken the floor to speak of updates in City Colleges and what is needed.

Chancellor Salgado expresses how City Colleges sustained their resource supports that began during the pandemic despite funding dwindling. Examples of providing free laptops for students and allowing for those in debt to return and “learn off their debt”.

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) is the largest community college system in the state of Illinois. Below you will find the demographic breakdown of who CCC serves and their challenges.

CCC serves a diverse range of students. Offering Adult Education programs allow for students to learn English if it isn’t their first language while additionally offering services in business/career prep.

CCC offers various services based on program interests. You will find some below. You will also find that recent projects that CCC has completed over the past year.

City Colleges also partner with 4-year universities to transfer students. Below you will find their top partners. Some school offer the STAR program that helps with the financial costs of education.

CCC is also offering space for incoming migrants at their schools and helping to find work and housing. The Adult Education program helps to serve migrants as well. Below you will find CCC strategies to help with key priorities that the city is currently tackling.

CCC is asking for state investment of $100 million and $32 million from local funding. Below you find where this funding will be allocated.

For the past 8 years (FY ‘16) there has been a steady hold on the cost of tuition. However there is a look for a $7 increase for students per credit hour. Meaning if a student takes 12 credit hours they will owe $84 for the semester.

Below you will find the resources that CCC provides to their students. This ranges from academic, mental health, food security, and housing security programs.

Associate Vice Chancellor of City Support explains that 99% of students who attend City Colleges are from Chicago as Chairman Jeanette Taylor requested this data earlier.


City Colleges Chicago Roadmap plan is to provide equitable education and close economic gaps.

Chicago Roadmap first focused on Academic Readiness and Success. They will be allowing high school students to complete math and english courses with a C or better to towards college credit without the need for entrance exams

Part of CCC’s enrollment increase is streamlining support to various demographics. Specifically increasing support on the South and West Side schools

Another aspect of the Chicago Roadmap plan is offer early access to career options allowing students to come in and shadow what college is like. City College of Chicago’s Roadmap plan has become a national model due to the outcomes and accomplishments.

@nytimes Chairperson Taylor urges for advertising for City Colleges should begin with working with students once they begin 3rd grade. “Third grade is where they start testing to figure out how many jails they’re going to build why don’t we begin with telling them about college.”
