• Received an update from Committee Vice Chair Robin Wonsley on the progress on the Safe and Thriving Communities Action Plan to broaden public safety beyond policing. Wonsley noted public safety is one significant area that the administration has not agreed to a plan with goals and transparency measures. Public engagement has revealed the public generally doesn’t know what the plan includes.
• Received an annual report from Minneapolis Tree Advisory Commission (MTAC). Concerns cited in the urban tree canopy were private property owners facing high bills for tree removal due to disease, compaction of soil at parks due to high use, and ongoing Park Board effort to plant two trees for every one removed.
• Received a report on the Community Outreach & Safety Program. The program funds neighborhood organizations that provide employment training and living wage jobs to community members who engage in community safety work.
• Received a presentation on zoning, licensing, operation, and regulation of sexually oriented businesses or services with comparisons to other cities and what Minneapolis would need to allow such uses.
